about spanky.gif

I am a Longhorn, longhorn.gif a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, earning my Bachelor of Science from the College of Communication's Radio-Television-Film Department. My wife Rayma is also a graduate from the same College with the same type of degree. She actually uses hers, working for KVUE-TV, Channel 24 - the ABC affiliate in Austin.

We were blessed with a beautiful daughter on July 31 of 1998. Her name is Alison Rayma Chase. You can find out more about our sweet girl at her web site.

We live in Austin, Texas, in a neighborhood known as Barton Hills, within walking distance from the Barton Creek Greenbelt and legendary Barton Springs pool. I am responsible for the Neighborhood Association web site. If you'd like to know more about Austin, these links will get you on your way quickly:

Our Orange Blood runs deep - we hold season tickets for both football and basketball games. I still mourn the passing of the Southwest Conference - now the Horns compete in the new Big 12 Conference. It will be hard to surpass the excitement of last year when Longhorn running back Ricky Williams won the Heisman Trophy and broke the NCAA rushing record against the hated Aggies. You can check this schedule for current results. If you live outside the broadcast area for Longhorn sports you can listen to them over the internet!

I work at apple.gif in the Global Product Support - Internet Publishing Group as a web site developer and server administrator. Check out the pages we are responsible for at the Apple Support site: http://www.apple.com/support/

I began my career at Apple in 1992 as a member of the Software Support Group (which later came to be known as the AppleSoft Group and now is called the Applications Group). The friends I made at Apple are some of my most treasured and I try to keep those ties current even though many of our group members now work for other companies.

Between my service in the Software Support Group and my current job at Apple, I spent 5 years atmotorola.gif in the Semiconductor Products Sector in Oak Hill (a suburb southwest of Austin) as a Server Administrator and Intranet Developer. Among many other Motorola products, PowerPC chips are designed and manufactured in Austin. PowerPC processors are the heart of Apple's Power Macintosh computers. And although Intel advertising would have you believe otherwise, they beat the socks off Pentium chips in most benchmarking and real world tests. As a result, Apple makes the world's fastest laptop computer and the world's fastest desktop computer.

I helped foundmacintosh se.gif Capitol Macintosh, Austin's largest and most active Macintosh User Group. From the original 7 founders CapMac has grown to over 400 members in just a few short years.

I graduated from Kecoughtan High School in Hampton, Virginia and moved to Austin to attend the University of Texas. As the son of an Air Force pilot, I lived in many different places, including Arizona, Georgia, Louisiana, England, and Germany. But I was born in Lubbock (birthplace of Buddy Holly), and am proud of my native Texan heritage.

My brother Scot is an attorney in Houston and recently discovered the internet as a valuable resource for obtaining important stats and scoring information for his fantasy football and baseball teams. Scot is a graduate of UT-Austin and the University of Houston Law School. Scot is married to Leslie and they have two children, a handsome son named Austin Scot and a beautiful daughter named Sidney Lynn. My Mother recently retired from the Alexandria Daily Town Talk in Alexandria, Louisiana, where she edited the Features page. Both of my parents graduated from Texas Tech in Lubbock. My sister Andrea lives in Pineville, Louisiana (just across the Red River from Alexandria). She is a Third Grade teacher, and received her degree from Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe, LA. She is married to John Melancon, and they have two super kids - Matthew and Kristen. My Father, Colonel Arthur Leo Chase, now deceased, was a career Air Force fighter pilot.

My hobbies include anything and everything related to Macintoshmac os icon.gifcomputing, collecting Boy Scout emblems (and building web sites to catalog them), and managing my Fantasy Football Team , the Garden Weasels.

My elementary years in England gave me a deep and abiding love of The Beatles - the last essay I wrote in college was about the film "Hard Day's Night." I recently found the floppy disk that it was stored on so you can read it here. It is copyrighted so if you publish it without my explicit permission you will get to meet my brother the attorney.

kim wilde lp.gifMy favorite female vocalist is from Great Britain as well. Ever since I saw the video for "Kids in America" on MTV I've been a fan of Kim Wilde - you can find several links to good web sites about Kim on "Spanky's Favorite Surf Spots" page. If you've not heard Kim's music since "Kids in America" you've missed some of her best songs. My favorite Kim LPs are "Close" and "Love Is" and my current favorite Kim songs are "High on You" and "Where Do You Go From Here" from her most recently released "Now and Forever" album.
